“It’s the people’s victory, a victory of love, a victory over
religious bias; we dare to say we won!”- AMITY
The LASUMSA
elections, 2015 may have come and gone but it would surely go down into the
annals of history as an epic tale, like every true tale it had full set of
actors and actresses alike, it also possessed the sweet tinge of suspense,
blackmail and mostly laughter but of all its many qualities the most sterling
is that of the victory we saw come to pass at its very end.
This
victory we speak of is not in relation or in relativity to the supposed victory
of any of the candidates at the polls but a victory hardly fought for with
sweat and blood, a victory born out of a revolution; it’s a victory over the
primordial biases that had besieged many souls in the land, It’s the people’s victory, a victory of love, a victory over
religious bias; and we dare to say we won!.
Our claim
of victory is not far-fetched, although a few in some quarters would challenge this
victory with claims of political undertones but ours is not a pyrrhic one as we
all saw with our own eyes Christians and Muslims alike, men and women of all
creeds and beliefs judge, criticize (both constructively and other wise) and
speak publicly open brazen truth to men and women of same religious fronts
(brothers and sisters as they would call them) who offered themselves for political
service of the people, indeed it was a scene to behold in this our tale. They
spoke of past incompetences of candidate, praised competence and defined future
prospects of persons seeking elective-positions; it never did end on this note
as the polls spoke more volumes. we must state here that the online AMITY
OPIONION POLLS conducted failed as some political proponents seeking victories not
representing the true wishes of the people sought and found an avenue and
influenced the online polls via multiple voting, hence we (AMITY) differed on
announcing the results prior the polls proper. Back to the issues on the polls;
the choice of candidates who won may not be a true representation of the choice
of everyone, but the trends of votes cast for both competitive positions and
the unopposed positions represent to an extent the choice of the Christian and
Muslim population of our college, they voted en mass; the highest turnout in
recent times.
We must
never forget in a hurry the results of the Amity survey carried out and how
many had come to say an emphatic “No!” to biases of different shades and embraced
with unflinching faith the pillar of competence.
Truth be
said; all candidates voted in might not have attained the level of competence
needed to lead the most intelligent set of individuals of society has to offer
but we must say that there are a few good heads also elected that the fate of
the association lies with.
The most
emotional part of this victory was recorded when the results were announced; as
we saw Muslims embrace Christians in joyful jubilation, indigenes shake
non-indigenes in ecstatic euphoria ,presumed losers become winners by
stretching fort and accepting the while results some even danced in the rain at
the victory party.
At the end
we all won, although our fight has not ended as we believe that a lot still
lies undone as we seek to pursue the recommendations made at “#The Discourse”
to the later, hence preventing future generations of tasting of the unsavoury
taste of such forlorn traditions of times past.
We congratulate
the elected candidates and salute the others and must state that we are
watching closely as electoral promises must be fulfilled because we know them
by heart.
And we
won...
LET’S LOVE ONE ANOTHER AND ‘TRUE LOVE’ BE THE WATCHWORD ……AMITY
